Her commitment to the Yelp mission of connecting people with great local businesses drives her to provide the best possible service to her clients every day. She shares what tops her “Why I love Yelp” list below.
I worked in the Healthcare field doing marketing for Medicare (read BORING).
How did you first hear about Yelp and the job opening?
I had a friend working here who worked in sales and loved it. I could see how obsessed she was with Yelp and knew I wanted to be part of such a great company.
What's your title at Yelp and how long have you been with the company?
I am an Account Manager and I have been working here since May 2011.
What comprises a typical day for you?
My typical day starts by checking my emails and voicemails so I can get my day organized. Then I schedule out my day. I call or email back any clients who have reached out and schedule appointments with them to go over their accounts if needed. I balance that with reaching out to clients proactively to work with them on getting their business listing information updated, make sure they are taking advantage of all of Yelp's great features, and work with them on maximizing their ad budgets. Amongst the phone calls and emails I like to stay pumped with my team by celebrating wins of saving or upgrading clients and ringing the triangle to alert the department. Not to mention the constant dance party from jamming out to the sweet tunes on the overhead speakers. Also, I never miss a snack time to snag a Hint water or a Coconut water and munch on some treats. :)
What's the best part of working for Yelp?
The environment. Period. I've never worked somewhere where I genuinely liked everyone I work with and where everyone worked so hard. The determination that everyone has here to do their best and to succeed is inspiring. You can honestly feel the tenacity everyone has, whether it's on the phone, or practicing for the annual Yelp ping pong tourney. Amazing.
What is your favorite perk at Yelp?
How do you pick just one? Well we already know I'm a huge fan of the snacks in the kitchen (I mean come on, you could cut your grocery bill by two thirds if you wanted!). Then to compensate for all those snacks I put down I can just skip right on over to the gym, which Yelp gives me a generous stipend for....score! And how about the sweet incentives for referring your talented friends to work with you? Yes please!
What has been your favorite memory at Yelp?
Again, nearly impossible to pick just one, but I think the most recent AM offsite takes the cake. We did a scavenger hunt through old town- sound boring? Well you're wrong. This scavenger hunt was organized by the Go Game company, who supplied each team with a cell phone, digital camera, and a bunch of missions to complete. Each team picked a theme and got dressed up for the occasion, so running around Old Town Scottsdale looking for different clues you would have had a chance to spot a whole group of Waldo's, the Ninja Turtles, and my team - Mario Party, complete with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Wario and Toad. Hilarity obviously ensued. We captured photos and videos of our adventures and then tallied up the points to find a winner over a pizza party. Probably not your typical Thursday afternoon in the office, no?
What separates Yelp from other places you've worked?
Hands down the passion. The passion that everyone at Yelp has for making Yelp better and how much they believe in the product and how it can help both consumers and businesses alike.
Finally, what would be your one piece of advice for someone interested in your role?
Don't be afraid to let your personality shine. This is a job where you have the freedom to be yourself and bring your energy every day. And most of all have fun with what you do - a positive attitude goes a long way!
